Another Case of Repeated Prosecutorial Misconduct: PJI Files Habeas Petition in Federal Court

Robert Tassin & PJI Board Member Denny LeBoeuf

Yesterday, PJI attorneys filed a petition  in federal court seeking a reversal of Robert Tassin’s conviction on the basis that it was obtained by prosecutorial misconduct.

Mr. Tassin was originally convicted in 1987. After 22 years spent on death row, the federal court reversed his prior conviction due to Jefferson Parish prosecutors presenting false evidence at his trial.

According to the new federal pleadings, the state repeated the same misconduct and presented the same false evidence at Mr. Tassin’s retrial. Mr. Tassin’s attorneys are taking the exceptional step of asking the federal court not only to reverse his conviction, but to bar the state from seeking a third trial due to the repeated misconduct.
