When All You Can Do Is Watch: Hurricane Katrina from Inside Angola
Today is the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Katrina changed and continues to impact the lives of so many New Orleanians and people throughout the Gulf South daily. At the Promise of Justice Initiative, when we think of the incredible devastation of Katrina and the failures of our government, we are called to remember those whom are so easily forgotten – our friends and neighbors inside of prison.
We invite you to take a moment to imagine how it might feel to be separated from your family during a natural and man-made disaster. Now imagine, not being able to contact them, physically search for them, protect them, or even or make sure they're okay.
As an organization that always looks to center people inside of prisons and their loved ones, we created a short series of listening sessions called: When All You Can Do Is Watch: Hurricane Katrina from Inside Angola.
We heard from several of our former clients who are now free about what it was like to watch their worlds implode from a television set at Angola during Hurricane Katrina.
Please listen to these recorded accounts here.
